Vision 2022 Success Story

Positive Impact to the Community

Vision 2022 has been a catalyst for community change since its inception in July of 2017.  The goal of unified planning and action in order to strengthen our community vitality has been realized by the engagement of close to a thousand individuals, representing all sectors of our community - business, education, non-profits, students, retired, clergy and municipalities.  These individuals and companies have participated in ongoing dialogue of 5 Work Groups and attendance at 2 community summits, totaling thousands of hours of discussion for the good of our community.   The teams have focused on 5 key opportunity areas as identified from the largest community survey ever conducted.  The areas are:  Changing the Conversation, Regional Collaboration, Healthy Manitowoc, Unique Downtowns and Young People Attraction and Retention.  The teams examined the current state of these topics and identified tactics to create an improved future state, all with the ultimate vision of being a community of people filled with excitement for success, pride and passion for better, who love to call Manitowoc County home!

Measures of success include:

  • Active engagement of 1000 people in the Vision 2022 process
  • 5 distinct action plans on key areas of opportunities are now underway
  • 2 community summits were conducted with over 500 people in attendance
  • I Will pride-builder campaign resulted in 1300 individuals pledging their personal commitment to positively promote Manitowoc County in thought, word and action
  • Manitowoc County was named an Active Community by Wisconsin Active Together
  • Net promoter score for Manitowoc County improved from -39 to 0 in past 18 months
  • Vision 2022 leaders were named in the 2018 Top 10 List of Influencers/Change Makers for Manitowoc County 

Initiative Sustainability

The Vision 2022 model was designed as a limited-term fire starter initiative that would transition key tactics to existing organizations within the community, rather than create another ongoing organization.  Why? V22 Leadership keenly appreciates the talents and resource availability within our community and values efficiency and strategic alignment.  Therefore, Vision 2022 transitioned tactics to existing community partners to assure sustainability of the actions in a responsible manner.  Organizational champions who now own tactical execution include: The Chamber Young Professionals, Healthiest Manitowoc County, and Progress Lakeshore.

Community Collaboration

Vision 2022 identified collaboration as a key component of the process, from day one.  We have worked through active collaboration with key business leaders from organizations such as Investors Community Bank, Lakeside Foods, Steimle Birschbach, Access Financial, Herzog Advisors, Americollect, Carron Net, New AHEC, Holy Family Memorial, Schenck, UW-Green Bay - Manitowoc Campus, Leede Research and Manitowoc County Public Health department.   Additionally, Vision 2022 has engaged with The Chamber, Healthiest Manitowoc County, Progress Lakeshore, Manitowoc County Area Visitor and Convention Center, Young Professionals, school systems, municipal leaders and service clubs throughout the entire process, inviting and valuing their input into the process. The ultimate demonstration of community collaboration is found in making Vision 2022 open to all people who live, work or play in Manitowoc County!
